Name Qualifiers

Member names need to be unique within an organisation that uses DutyMan. But of course it's not unusual for there two or more John Smiths or Lucy Browns in the same club. To differentiate between members with duplicate names DutyMan provides a Name Qualifier - an optional string of characters that is appended to member names when needed. For example John Smith Snr and John Smith Jnr or Lucy Brown PO10 and Lucy Brown BN14. Snr, Jnr, PO10, BN14 are all Name Qualifiers.

Two ways to use Name Qualifiers

  • Apply them to only those members with duplicate names as in the examples above.

  • Apply them to all members for example by using a membership number as the Name Qualifier.

When does DutyMan use qualified names?

DutyMan uses qualified member names, that is member name suffixed with its name qualifier, when it is necessary or advisable to distinguish between members. Examples include:

  • When logging in

  • When the duty roster is displayed or printed

  • In lists of members such as during duty allocation or when using the mailer and member reporting.

DutyMan uses unqualified names when there is no ambiguity, typically when communicating with an individual member.

Applying Name Qualifiers

You can provide Name Qualifiers to individual members in >Members >List.

Name Qualifiers can be uploaded and downloaded

Name Qualifiers can be specified via the DutyMan Web Service.
