Duty Display Order
Events within a roster are listed in date order. If there is more than one event on the same day then they are listed in alphabetical order of event name.
The order of duties within an event depends on whether you are using Freeform or Listed duty typing.
Freeform
Duties are listed within an event in the order in which they were added to the roster.
For example you might upload a file of duties, or type them in online, in this order
If you later add a further duty to this event the order is
Listed
Duties are listed within an event in this order:
- Group Major Display Order
- Type Display Order
- Group Minor Display Order
- Type alphabetical order
- Member Last Name alphabetical order *
- Member First Name alphabetical order
* or Member Name alphabetical order if you use single member names.
Display Orders are one or two character alphanumeric code which you assign. Numbers sort before letters and all letters are treated as uppercase. Blank Display Orders sort after non-blank.

A more complex example
Suppose the team for a sailing club race is a Race Officer, an Assistant Race Officer and two patrol boats, Boat 1 and Boat 2, each with a nominated helm and a crew. Their default order when using Listed duty types is alphabetic
Group and Type Display Orders can be used to rearrange the duties into a more usual order
Group Major Display Orders A, B and C establish the sequence of race officers follow by boat duties.
Within Group Major Display Order C, Type Display Orders 1 and 2 place Boat 1 before Boat 2.
Group Minor Display Orders X and Y ensure that helms appear before crews.
Once set up Display Orders control the order of all duties within a roster.
