Retry Mechanism

The Mailer sends your queued messages one at a time until your email server rejects one. It then waits for 10 minutes and tries again. It goes through this cycle up to 10 times and then, if messages are still being rejected, it concludes that there is a permanent error and sends you the text of the last failure message.

Common reasons for failure include

  • Your mail account has not been set up correctly. Use the Test button to check and, if it fails, inform your DutyMan Administrator.
  • Your mail account cannot handle the volume of emails that you want to send. Many email service providers, such as Gmail, limit the number of emails that can be sent in a given period of time. The DutyMan Mailer’s retry mechanism can sometimes, but not always, alleviate these restrictions. If this is the reason for failure, inform your DutyMan Administrator.

Sent does not mean Delivered

A message may be sent to your email service provider but this does not guarantee that it will be delivered to its intended recipient. Most messages arrive successfully but sometimes they fail for reasons such as new email addresses and mail boxes full. When a message is undeliverable it is normally reported back to the sender via the sender's email service provider.
