Duty rosters can be a headache for many organisations; clubs,
voluntary groups, and commercial operations.
Duties can be anything from being in charge of an event, doing a round, providing
safety or first-aid cover, coaching, recording results, providing teas, manning
the bar, or clearing up afterwards. Smooth operation depends on people turning up
and completing their duties according to a list of prearranged times and jobs -
the duty roster.
Especially for organisations relying on volunteers, persuading people to commit
to a duty and then turn up to actually do it can take a lot of time. Personal copies
of rosters get lost, or are not up to date. Reminders are needed shortly before
each duty, and someone may want to swap or ask for cover at short notice.
